About PI (Chen, Po-Han/ 陳伯翰)

Po-Han was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. His research career started at Prof. Hsin-Chih Lai’s Lab (Chang Gung University) to study bacteria physiology as an undergraduate student. His master thesis, focused on RNA splicing and fly development, was advised by Prof. Show-Li Chen at National Taiwan University. In 2013, he received the Hung Taiwan-Duke fellowship to begin his PhD at the Dept. of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology at Duke University in the United States. While focusing on the Blue Devil's game day (Go Duke!), Po-Han was also co-mentored by Prof. Jen-Tsan Ashley Chi (Molecular Genetics and Microbiology) and Prof. Michael Boyce (Biochemistry) to learn complementary skills in genetics and biochemistry. His PhD works uncovered novel biological determinants in two emerging topics, ferroptosis and O-GlcNAcylation. For post-doctoral training, he changed his research trajectory to learn chemical biology with Prof. Craig M. Crews at Yale University. The Crews lab is the world-leading lab for the PROTAC (proteolysis targeting chimera) technology. Other than working on the development of PROTACs, Po-Han has pioneered a novel catalytic drug modality using bifunctional molecules (PhosTACs, phosphorylation targeting chimera) for targeted protein dephosphorylation.
